In Anacapri, in the splendid setting of Villa San Michele, the house museum of the Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe, a special event took place on Thursday 20 August at 7 pm for the presentation of the book 'Good Capitalism' by Stefano Cingolani. The panoramic terrace of the Anacapri residence was the setting for this exclusive event, during which the author of 'Good Capitalism. Why the Market Will Save Us' (Luiss University Press) met the economist and president of Assonime Innocenzo Cipolletta and the president of LUISS Vincenzo Boccia.
The presentation was moderated by Manuela Liverzani of Antalya Sinergy, while Enzo Saturni read some passages from the book. The essay by Cingolani, a respected writer in the field of economics and international relations, proposed an analysis in the form of a journalistic investigation into the transformation of capitalism into an increasingly digital, green and responsible system. 'The crisis caused by the pandemic has not blocked, but on the contrary, has accelerated the changes underway in the economy and society', said the author. According to Cingolani, it was a new way of working, producing and consuming, a true industrial revolution that was not imposed from above by governments or authoritarian powers, but which arose from production and exchange relations, or from the market. From here, he explained, also began the push to overcome the limits and contradictions of the liberal-democratic system, today called into question by national-populism. The meeting in Anacapri offered the opportunity to delve into the concept of capitalism as a 'modern Proteus', an economic-social system whose essence lies in its continuous evolution. The event was one of the highlights of the cultural season of Villa San Michele, directed by Kristina Kappelin, made possible thanks to the contribution of Progetto Piano and the patronage of the Swedish Embassy. The villa's programming continued with the review 'Il salotto della sfinge', dedicated to meetings on cinema, literature and art, and with the concert of pianist and biologist Emiliano Toso, further enriching the cultural offering of this evocative place in Anacapri.
